About Us
Rhodes Greenhouses was started in 1962 in a wood framed greenhouse by Leland and Gerene Rhodes
who had also operated the Triangle Gardens Greenhouse operation in Adams, New York starting in 1947.
Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes moved to Henderson in 1962 and started the process of building the greenhouses,
eventually moving some of the greenhouses from the former Adams site to Henderson, New York.
The business was bought by their son, Gary, in 1982, and he started to build the business up, until it
became the largest grower of spring plants in this part of New York State. Customers come from all
over this part of the state to obtain some of the best grown plants around.
Oliver Bates Historic Site
Rhodes Greenhouses is located on the former Oliver Bates Farm, founded in 1807 and which the limestone house to the south of the businesses is located on the state and National Register being built about 1820. The house was an early Mormon meeting house and was possibly part of the Underground Railroad

2024
A NEW BEGINNING AT RHODES GREENHOUSES!
Starting in the spring and fall of 2023 we started working with Heather Poire of Proven Winners and Judy Sharpton of Growing Places Marketing to bring Rhodes Greenhouses into a more retail friendly and convenient shopping facility.
This has involved taking down walls, widening aisles, redoing benches and their layout, creating a new checkout area, redesigning the layout of the outdoor shopping area, as well as upgrading the bagged goods area, all to make the shopping experience at Rhodes Greenhouses more organized and easier to shop in. With the help of new sets of eyes as well as the suggestions of our staff, we have gone a long way to make getting around just easier so that you can find things!
We hope to have much better signage in all areas for both products as well as directions, as we are a large area and it can be confusing, which we hope to reduce.
We carry a large variety of bagged goods and once we moved all the pallets out, we realized just how packed our product was, so we are thinning that out so shoppers can find mulch and soil products easier.
Our Coast of Maine and Miracle Grow soils will still be available but easier to find along with the specialty mulch and soil amendments.
We have upgraded greenhouses and opened the walk areas for easier shopping and display of products.
We welcome other ideas from our shoppers to make our facility better!
